101 What is Wildfire Analyst Enterprise?

This is the first introductory course for users of Wildfire Analyst Enterprise FireCast & FireSim. It is a prerequisite for all Wildfire Analyst Enterprise (WFA-E) users.  Users will need to complete the on-line training get a proof of completion certificate to access the rest of the courses in the training platform.

This course introduces students to the basic concepts of wildland fire behavior prediction and risk modeling using Wildfire Analyst software, including:

  • Description of the objectives of implementing WFA in the agency decision-making process
  • What is WFA Enterprise and the different tools provided 
  • Introduction to the training platform and courses

102 Understanding WFA-E Capabilities

This is the second course for users of Wildfire Analyst Enterprise.

103 WFA FireSim Mobile

103 WFA FireSim Mobile

This is an online-only course for mobile users of Wildfire Analyst Enterprise Mobile (FireSim). It is a prerequisite to take the first course of these series: 101 Introduction to Wildfire Analyst.

  It introduces students to the use of the software wildland fire behavior in the field using Wildfire Analyst FireSim mobile, including:

  • How to install the app and navigate the interface and map tools available
  • Instructions on how to create, download and analyze existing simulations
  • Step-by-step instructions on how to capture information in the field

104 Using Advanced WFA-E Features

104 Using Advanced WFA-E Features

This is the advanced course users of Wildfire Analyst.  It introduces students to advanced wildland fire behavior and risk modeling capabilities using Wildfire Analyst Enterprise, including:


  • Understanding WFA-E Outputs

  • Interrogating Weather Data

  • FireSim Advanced Modeling

  • Reviewing Dashboards

Users must complete courses 101 and 102 prior to starting course 104.

106 Reviewing WFA-E Data and Models

This short course is focused on explaining the models, data, and tools behind the WFA-E platform. The intended audience is all those who want to know more about the fire behavior science foundations that feed the tools. The videos were recorded live during the training for FBAN's and specialists on the 6th of August 2020. Total duration is close to 3 hours of recorded content.

  • Fire Behavior Modeling with WFA-E
  • Understanding Weather Input Data
  • Reviewing Surface Fuels Updates & Enhancements (Disturbances, Seamlines, WUI and other non-burnable land use)
  • Fuel Moisture Data and Models
  • Sources of Fire Location (CAD, FireGuard, Hotspots, Mobile)

201 What is Tactical Analyst?

This course provides an overview of the fiResponse Tactical Analyst software. It is a mandatory course for all users of Tactical Analyst and should be taken prior to other Tactical Analyst courses. Students need to complete the on-line training, and provide output examples to confirm  completion of the course. 

This section includes:

  • An overview of the capabilities of fiResponse Tactical Analyst
  • An overview of CAL FIRE use cases and objectives for using the software
  • How to use the training courses
  • Technical prerequisites for using the fiResponse Tactical Analyst web and mobile apps.

202 Tactical Analyst Web

202 Tactical Analyst Web

This is the primary course for users of fiResponse Tactical Analyst web software. It is a mandatory course for all users of Tactical Analyst. Students need to complete the on-line training, and provide output examples to confirm  completion of the course. 

This section introduces students to using the tools within the web version of Tactical Analyst, including:

  • An agency description of objectives for implementing Tactical Analyst in incident operations and management
  • What is Tactical Analyst and how it can be used to obtain information about active incidents
  • How to view and edit data, such as incident mapping and map augmentation
  • How to import and view data analytics related to an incident
  • How to use the tools to create maps and reports, and
  • How to share information and collaborate with other users.

203 Tactical Analyst Mobile

203 Tactical Analyst Mobile

This is the primary course for users of fiResponse Tactical Analyst mobile software. It is a mandatory course for all users who wish to use Tactical Analyst in the field.  Students need to complete the on-line training, and provide output examples to confirm  completion of the course. 

This section introduces students to using the tools within the mobile version of Tactical Analyst, including:

  • Objectives for using the mobile version
  • What is Tactical Analyst mobile and how it can be used to capture data about incidents
  • How to view and edit data, such as incident mapping, capture photos, videos and other files, and
  • How to sync your local data with the central Tactical Analyst incident database.
